The key ingredients are 3% tranexamic acid (cetyl tranexamate mesylate) and 4% niacinamide and this combination helps to fade discoloration; reduce the appearance of acne scars; and even out skin tone.

What is Tranexamic acid?

This is not a widely-spoken acid, or at least I have not heard much about it. It is derived from lysine amino acid, Tranexamic acid is a water-soluble ingredient, which helps to fight discoloration, hyperpigmentation, and scarring as well as brighten skin. It is a gentle active skincare ingredient, which is generally safe for all skin types and daily use. It pairs well with other skincare products such as vitamin C, Retinol, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, and sunscreen.

What is Niacinamide Acid?

Niacinamide is a popular skincare ingredient. It is a derivative of vitamin B3. Niacinamide is a water-soluble and antioxidant vitamin, which means it helps the skin retain moisture, protects the skin barrier, and evens out skin texture. It is also a gentle active skincare ingredient that suits all skin types and is safe for daily use. It pairs well with retinol, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and ceramides.

How to use the Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum?

This serum can be used twice daily morning and evening and pairs well with pretty much any skincare product.

But, do not use the Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum on days you use AHAs or BHAs in your PM skincare routine as it can irritate the skin. This is my personal preference. You can technically pair Tranexamic Acid with retinol, but I try to keep my actives separate.

My Review of the Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum

Well, I have sensitive dry, and acne-prone skin. The Discoloration Correcting Serum has a milky texture and glides beautifully on the skin. It is not sticky at all.

Right after application, my skin feels smooth and hydrated. Using it twice a day has helped my skin and lightened up the pigmentation. The discoloration around my mouth area is not as visible as it was before, but I won’t say there’s a huge difference after using it just for 2 weeks. Given the low percentage of active ingredients, I am not surprised by this.

But, this serum is affordable and also target multiple skin concerns.

Does it live up to its claims?

Yes. Both Niacinamide and Tranexamic Acid will help in reducing hyperpigmentation in the long run.

How does the Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum compare to other serums?

1) The INKEY LIST Tranexamic Acid Night Treatment

There is a difference in the concentration – Tranexamic Acid is 2% available in The INKEY LIST Tranexamic Acid, while Good Molecules doesn’t share that information on the package.

Another noticeable difference is that The Inkey List uses a Vitamin C derivative to go with it, while Good Molecules pairs it with Niacinamide. Other than that both are similar in price and texture, and as it is always the case when talking about hyperpigmentation, results are too slow to achieve to be able to really compare the two in terms of efficacy.

2) Good Molecules Daily Brightening Serum

Another serum by Good Molecules promises even and bright skin, but this one has a focus on Arbutin. Both Arbutin and Tranexamic have their place in fighting hyperpigmentation, so I think you are well advised to use both if you are suffering from stubborn sun spots.

Would I repurchase?

I will not be repurchasing this serum as I think The Inkey List is a better option for me.

To whom do I recommend this Good Molecules Serum?

If you suffer from pigmentation mostly hyperpigmentation. But, if you have extremely sensitive skin like me you have to go slowly with Tranexamic Acid. It is usually well tolerated but it did irritate my skin in the beginning so be careful and start slow.
